GOAL

Meet client expectations, secure future contracts, and ensure company growth with sustainability as a strategy.

Advance Plants, an SME based in Brisbane has as clients companies such us Westfield, Deloitte Group, and Brisbane City Council, these players are preparing themselves to meet the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS), this regulation will soon require them to report on their governance, strategy, risk management, metrics and targets which involves Scope 1,2, 3 emissions—from their entire supplier’s chain. Advance Plants is proactively positioning itself to meet these requirements, ensuring it remain a valuable and compliant partner in their clients’ sustainability journey.

SOLUTION

Advance Plants partnered with Conexus to not just understand upcoming regulations—but to get ahead of the curve. They understand that as large corporations gear up to report their carbon emissions, SMEs like themselves are becoming a critical part of the supply chain story. With many big players needing to report their Scope 3 emissions (which include those from suppliers), Advance Plants is making sure they’re ready, meeting client demands, securing valuable contracts, and remaining one step ahead in a landscape of increasing regulation.

Where are you currently taking action?

Before diving into data measurement, we conducted a sustainability gap analysis to understand where Advance Plants is on its sustainability journey and identify strategic initiatives for improvements. This helped them set actionable goals.

Understand where is the business in terms of carbon reduction

To embark on the journey towards decarbonisation, we drew a frame to understand their strategies and measure their current carbon emissions for setting achievable reduction targets based on sustainability initiatives. Based on the solution outcomes and report, Advance Plants can now engage their 40+ employees on the topic of decarbonisation and build sustainability reduction initiatives across the entire organisation.

Understanding baseline emissions.

Scope 1 emissions

Direct emissions

These emissions arise directly from sources owned or controlled by the company, such as air conditioners, and company vehicles. They’re generally the most visible and the ones businesses have the most control over.

‍Actionable steps

Vehicle fleet analysis
Audit the total number of company vehicles, fuel types, average fuel consumption, and total kilometres driven.

On-site refrigerators
Record the model of air-conditioners and calculate using The Global Warming Potential (GWP).

Scope 2 emissions

Indirect emissions

These emissions result from purchased energy, typically electricity, used in the company’s operations. While not directly emitted by the company, they’re a result of its energy consumption choices.

“We were delighted to work with Francine on our company’s carbon report. She is so passionate and helpful. We definitely over looked some very simply strategies to lower our carbon footprint, so we were very grateful for her insight.”

RESULT

The collaboration between Advance Plants and Conexus.Earth marks a significant milestone in advancing decarbonisation within the plant hire industry. To keep the entire organisation up-to-date and motivated towards carbon reduction, Conexus provided a transparent report to be shared with key stakeholders, positioning the company favourably for grants and tenders.

Through our reporting, we laid the foundation for understanding the company’s current environmental impact and identifying the next steps for the company. With these insights, Advance Plants is now positioned to fully engage in deep sustainability practices and implement robust decarbonisation strategies.

The company will not stop at the environmental criteria for its company but is ready to soon assess its entire ESG performance to uncover current and future opportunities. This will serve as a basis for developing its ESG strategy (primarily to be ahead of regulatory shifts in the region).
